How Warrior Cat names work
In the Warriors series, every Clan cat's name is built from a prefix and a suffix. The prefix is chosen at birth — usually a color, a plant, or a trait (Fire-, Blue-, Bramble-, Silver-) — and it stays with the cat for life. The suffix changes with rank: a newborn is a kit (Firekit), an apprentice earns -paw (Firepaw), a full warrior receives a descriptive suffix from the Clan leader (Fireheart), and a leader takes -star (Firestar) along with nine lives. Medicine cats and queens keep their warrior names.
Using these names
- Roleplay & fan fiction: pick a prefix that hints at your cat's look or personality, then choose the suffix that matches their rank in your story. Turn on name journey to see the whole life path from kit to leader.
- Whole Clans: the 20-name batch fills a Clan roster fast — each name already reads like it belongs in ThunderClan or ShadowClan.
- Make it yours: a leader's -star name is always their warrior prefix + "star," so "Brambleclaw" becomes "Bramblestar" when they lead.
